Patch Pieces
October 2024 – October 2026Painted in September 2024, The Space Program is pleased to host a two-year installation of Patch Pieces by artist Muzae Sesay. Patch Pieces is an artwork that takes architectural images from around the Dogpatch neighborhood and reduces them to rudimentary forms that are then built into an abstract composition. Shipyard archways, hidden corridors, and discarded furniture become a type of iconography to be discovered and interpreted by the viewer. The overall industrial nature of the environment around the Dogpatch lends itself to the structural form of the piece. The work takes reference from Muzae's Oakland mural Lake Merritt, Black Structures, and Colorful Streets.
