The Space Program San Francisco and Minnesota Street Project are proud to announce Beauty is Resistance, a group exhibition by contemporary artists Demetri Broxton, Richard Colman, Jamil Hellu, Michelle Yi Martin and Amy Nathan, all former residents of The Space Program. The 5 artists chosen for this exhibition all deal with the figure in radically different ways and materials.

In collaboration with SF Art Week and Atrium

Please join us for Instability at the Core, a group exhibition presented by The Space Program San Francisco, highlighting the work of our 2025 artists-in-residence. Participating artists include Dana Hemenway, Alanna Scott, Sonny Smith, Kevin Earl Taylor, Tranquil Elephantizer, Marlon Paine, Carrie Ann Plank, Amber Jean Young, and Zoltron. 

 During the opening reception, Tranquil Elephantizer will play new material and immersive sound drawn from their forthcoming album, Order Ov Resistance. 

The Space Program will also host a popup featuring unique art objects created by past artists-in-residence. It will take place January 22-25 during the inaugural Atrium art fair at Minnesota Street Project.

The Space Program and Minnesota Street Project are proud to announce Silence is Louder than Sound, a compelling solo exhibition by contemporary artist Brett Amory that investigates the unseen yet pervasive influence of algorithms and digital networks on our perception of reality.

In this new body of work, Amory departs from digital spectacle, choosing instead to embody the algorithmic substratum through large scale paintings that emphasize material presence and tactile complexity. These works evoke the digital realm and feature motifs reminiscent of memes, captchas, and code while resisting their ephemeral, pixel-based nature through textured surfaces and layered materials. The resulting artworks invite viewers into a dialogue between the immediacy of physicality and the abstract processes shaping online life.

At the heart of the exhibition lies Amory's innovative custom Al system, zOglyphic 913, a symbolic language designed to constantly remix and evolve, mirroring the undecidable nature of computational logic. The glyphs and semiotic distortions generated by this system serve as visual embodiments of the limits and ambiguities inherent in algorithmic processes highlighting the inescapable presence of undecidability and indeterminacy in contemporary digital culture. Through Silence is Louder than Sound, Amory offers a poetic reflection on the interface between the symbolic and the subsymbolic, the human and the machine. His works echo the pioneering spirit of Harold Cohen's glyph-based series AARON while also questioning the nature of meaning and communication in an era dominated by algorithmic mediation. The textured, embodied surfaces challenge viewers to experience the saturation of digital influences through physical presence, emphasizing that even in silence, the computational encroachment is profoundly felt.

The Space Program offers 4,000 sq ft of shared studio space to a wide range of disciplines.

### Recording Studio 
The Space Program includes a state of the art recording studio designed by world renowned studio designer John Storyk, who has built recording facilities and studios for the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Jay Z and Alicia Keys among many others. The studio's recording capabilities are best suited for mixing, editing, broadcast and digital production. The live room and vocal isolation booth can accommodate solo or small bands.    

### Studio space 
The facility has 2,500 sq ft dedicated to the visual arts program, including automatic screen printing presses, darkroom with exposure units, and a variety of wood and metal-working tools.  

### Other capabilities 
The Space Program has relationships with a variety of experts in fabrication, sculpture, and technology. We're happy to explore capabilities outside of what we currently host onsite depending on project needs.    

The Space Program residents have access to a recording studio, small and large format silk-screening facilities, and wood and metal shop tools along with off-site resources in ceramics and metal fabrication.

Facilities

The Space Program is a private San Francisco-based residency, providing artists across a range of disciplines with the space, tools, and time to create.   

In a city facing rapidly diminishing commercial spaces for creative pursuits, The Space Program aims to be an oasis for artists. Our goal is to nurture and revitalize the vibrant artistic culture that has long defined San Francisco.  

The Space Program residents have access to a recording studio, screen printing facilities, a wood shop, and metal shop along with off-site resources in ceramics and metal fabrication. Residencies are project-based and invitation-only at this time.
